Late 70s and early 80s reggae and dub mashes with live flute flourishes.
UK-born musician and producer, Don Fe, brings his unique production sound to Wilkswood Reggae Festival this year. Based in Spain for over 20 years, Don’s live show is a combination of a selection of the best of UK Conscious Roots and Foundation alongside his own productions, incorporating live flute along with backing from guest singers and MCs.
Don’s passion since the age of five has been music (he is classically trained in piano, flute and theory) and, on moving to Brighton in the 80s at the age of 18, he discovered soundsystem culture and started collaborating with a local sound which led to him taking part in various festivals and local residencies. He started recording music and bands with cassette tapes and porta-studios and by the age of 25 he had his first studio setup with an 8-track reel-to-reel and an Atari computer.
In 1993 he moved to West Africa for a time before finally reaching Spain. After co-running a commercial label he now dedicates the majority of his time to his own productions and collaborations from his in-house studio in Southern Spain where he records and produces all his music and cuts them on to vinyl for his Jah Catlayst record label. Today his productions are now played by the world’s most respected sounds – Channel One, Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti, Iration Steppas and many more all over the world. Over the last five years he has done more than 100 shows in Spain as well as taking part in festivals in France, UK and Germany sharing lineups with people such as Soom T, Aba Shanti, Channel One, Vibronics and many more.
Apart from his studio work he also plays with live band The Producers, alongside Roberto Sanchez and Prince Jamo, often collaborating with Earl 16, Milton Henry and Ricky Grant. He is also the founding member of Four Man Army Soundsystem based in the SE Spain and is a frequent collaborator with Ben Alpha and his Dub Dynasty project.
