DJ Dapper Dan is possibly the only reggae deejay who is also a traditional olde worlde town crier. He is The Town Crier of Wimborne Minster in Dorset and has been spinning tunes for over 40 years, from the Sergeants Mess at USAF bases to internationally renowned events such as Glastonbury Festival, Back to Africa Festival (Gambia), Bestival and Boomtown.
He has a serious and deep-rooted love of reggae music in all its wonderful forms. Since 2008 he has had a weekly two-hour radio show, ‘Skanking Delights’ on Forest FM 92.3. Dapper Dan’s particular approach has best been summarised by Neil Fraser (Mad Professor) who described him as “The John Peel of Reggae”. He is a compere at many festivals encouraging crowd participation and introduces acts with a traditional ‘cry’ such as he did for The Polyphonic Spree at Glastonbury Festival 2007. For the past two years he has taken command of the Town Centre Stage at Boomtown Festival and was also secretly selected to play two deejay sets at Banksy’s Dismaland.
Dapper Dan’s musical style is not limited by boundaries or fashion – he is as at home playing Albanian Nose Flute music to Zimbabwean Roots and all stops in-between.
